There aren’t too many games available in North America like Moero Chronicle Hyper. It’s a game that you would only expect to find in Japan. Every now and then, games featuring oversexualized anime girls get localized out West. Somehow this game not only made it over to the States, but it is also a Switch exclusive.

Moero Chronicle Hyper follows Io, a young man who struggles to talk to women because he is a massive pervert. Unfortunately for him, he finds himself on an adventure that involves recruiting sexy monster girls for battle to save the day. The story isn’t particularly impressive, but it is direct and straightforward. It’s full of its own style of humor fills the gaps with excessive fanservice.

The gameplay follows the footsteps of the other dungeon-crawling games that paved the way for it. Players will navigate simple dungeons as they chart their way around and deal with monster encounters. Fans of Etrian Odyssey and Mary Skelter will feel right at home while exploring the dungeons. Moero Chronicle Hyper doesn’t deviate from the games that come before it. It doesn’t bring anything unique to the genre.

The combat is mostly bland too, with typical turn-based mechanics. There is a lot of strategy involved though, so it isn’t a mindless affair for the player. Players need to account for elemental weaknesses and the strengths of the monster girls they recruit. The recruitment is rather unique, and where all of the fanservice really shows that there aren’t any limits.

Io can recruit monster girls by destroying their armor. Once the armor is on, players will poke at, touch, and rub the girls to make them weak. When the girls are hot and bothered enough, the curse that made them bad is suddenly gone. All the bad energy is released and the girls will join the party. It’s all overly sexual and will likely turn away most demographics. The character designs and environments are over-the-top. There are penises, boobs, and butts everywhere.

Graphically, Moero Chronicle Hyper isn’t anything special. Anime visuals, drawn artwork, and simple dungeons fill the game. The dungeons would be bland if not for the innuendos that fill the dungeons. Sex fills the game at every turn. The music is upbeat with a couple of catchy beats.

Moero Chronicle Hyper is a fine dungeon crawler. Aside from all the innuendo, it’s nothing special though. The dungeon crawling and action are all mediocre. Moero Chronicle Hyper is for a very specific crowd that knows what they want. If it’s not taken too seriously, it can be a good time. Just make sure you are okay with half-naked anime girls before proceeding.

Marcus isn't good at a lot, but he is an expert at replaying Final Fantasy games despite there being a lot of good stuff out there. He also loves comics, board games, and anime. He thinks Chip Zdarsky is a treasure.
