Dark Horse Books has announced Red & Blue: Monster Hunters, the English-language debut of a middle-grade graphic novel from Spanish cartoonist Sara Soler. Originally published in Spain, the story follows two young heroines as they navigate the ethics of monster hunting in a world where not everything is as heroic as it seems.
Soler, known for her work on Season of the Bruja and Us, both co-created with comics writer Aaron Durán, serves as both writer and illustrator for the standalone story. The book is lettered by Joamette Gil (Castaways, Time Traveler Tales) and translated to English by Silvia Perea Labayen (Us). This marks the first time Soler’s debut graphic novel has been made available to English-speaking audiences.
The plot centers around Red and Blue, two aspiring heroes finally given a chance to prove themselves when they’re called on to help slay a dragon. But upon entering the mountain stronghold, the duo learns that the mission may not be as noble as they thought. The story explores themes of moral responsibility, personal growth, and the cost of following orders.
“Being a young woman facing the world alone for the first time is no small feat, and Red and Blue are going to have a really tough time, just like I did, pursuing what they’re truly passionate about: being great heroines,” Soler says.
Red & Blue: Monster Hunters will be released in paperback on December 9, 2025, in bookstores and December 10 in comic shops. The 64-page volume will retail for $14.99 and is available for preorder through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and local retailers.
