One Punch-Man Chapter 133
VIZ
Mangaka: ONE (Writer), Yusuke Murata (Art)
Chapter 133 picks up right where the previous one left off with Tatsumaki and Psykos’ battle escalating. This chapter continues the trend of flashy and absurd feats of power between the two psychics as their energy blasts rip through the sky.
In this chapter, we got to see Tatsumaki show off even more as she simultaneously battles Psykos while also trying to protect the civilians nearby as well as extract the rest of the S-Class heroes from the crumbling Monster Association base. While Tatsumaki seems dominant for much of the chapter, she does find herself in a spot of trouble towards the end. However, she gets bailed out by fellow S-Class Demon Cyborg Genos who begins pushing his new upgrades to the limit in order to support his comrade against the threat.
If you’ve read any of my prior reviews, you know the drill: Murata’s art is fantastic. Besides Madhouse’s adaptation of the first season of the One Punch-Man anime, nothing else even gets close to capturing the splendor and action on the page the same way that Murata’s art captures OPM. Especially when it comes to the sheer scale of the battles currently taking place, Murata is able to perfectly draw each panel that a lot of the time I find the manga to be far better looking than the anime adaptation.
ONE’s writing also continues to impress as he weaves a narrative of both epic encounters in combat as well as silly gags and jokes. In this chapter, for example, we go from the power struggle between Genos, Tatsumaki, and Psykos to Saitama and the one-eyed monster Manako suffering from hunger while Flashy Flash remains buried up to his neck in debris. A story that can make me both laugh and cheer is always a good one, in my book. One Punch-Man shines brightest when the action is rising and the story allows ONE to show off his colorful cast of characters.
Chapter 133 is another good one, and I can’t wait to see where the story goes next. Again, I’m hoping to see more from the S-Class heroes going forward because to me that was the highlight of this Monster Association arc. Not only that, but we still have a Garou situation brewing somewhere inside the Monster Association building that will need to be addressed sooner or later. Needless to say, this arc still has a lot more in store for us and I can’t wait.
