Which Tanto Cuore Game Is Right For You?

Tanto Cuore is one of Japanime Games’ most popular and well-received games in their catalog. The game is so successful that it has led to four expansions and a spinoff, giving the deckbuilder tons of content for dedicated players to enjoy. With tons to choose from, how will you know where to start?

    The Original – Tanto Cuore

Of course, if someone is trying to get into the Tanto Cuore franchise, it’s hard to recommend anything other than the original release. Tanto Cuore takes the mechanics that make Dominion so successful and makes it all cute. It’s also a fairly casual game and is accessible to those who haven’t played a game from the genre yet. It’s fast-paced, competitive, and scales well at all player counts. There are tons of maids, tons of ways to play, and many hours of enjoyment to be had with Tanto Cuore.

You Want Husbandos and Cute Dates?

Tanto Cuore: Winter Romance is the most recent expansion, and also the best one in the series. The dating mechanic is fantastic and adds a great level of strategy to the base game. The introduction of butlers doesn’t really change the mechanics up too much, but the new art is definitely welcome. Even if butlers aren’t any different than maids, some of the new butler cards have some fantastic effects that make just make the game better. The cozy winter theme is endearing and helps to immerse the players into the world of Tanto Cuore.

Let’s Get Those Maids Some Liquid Courage

Beer lovers will love Tanto Cuore: Oktoberfest. It fully embraces its theme and features some wonderful new effects centered around alcohol. Drinking is the name of the game if you want a lot of victory points, but players will need to balance their intake to avoid bad effects. The art is wonderful, with the maids sporting some German fashion that helps to enhance the theme. This set is a bit heavy on the fanservice, but if this doesn’t turn you away, Tanto Cuore: Oktoberfest is a great addition to your tabletop.

Do Your Maids Need A Bigger House?

The first expansion of Tanto Cuore is pretty basic, but that doesn’t prevent it from being an enjoyable addition to the franchise. Tanto Cuore: Expanding the House focuses on adding new maids and new buildings to house and protect your maids in. While new buildings don’t sound too exciting, this is and Winter Romance are the only sets in the series that fully embraces the ability to attack other players. It’s a game-changer and is perfect for those who want their deckbuilder to be just a bit more interactive. It’s not great by itself, but with another set or two, this is a great addition to your collection.

It’s Time To Relax Under the Sun

Is the beach episode of an anime your favorite? If so, keep putting that shame aside and warm up with Tanto Cuore: Romantic Vacation. The beach-themed episode brings all of the best summer tropes to your maids. The addition of Reminiscence cards embraces the summer theme with events like Tests of courage, bonfires, and fireworks. These cards also add tons of Victory Points to players but are obtained in a way completely different from every mechanic. The end result is an expansion that feels so unique that its like a little vacation.

Not In The Mood For A Deckbuilder?

If you don’t want a long affair playing a deckbuilder, your maids are also great volleyball players! Tanto Cuore: Dok Doki Beach Volleyball is a head to head competitive game that emphasizes hand management. Games are quick, easy to learn, and highly interactive. If you are looking for a fun, thematic experience, this is a fine Tanto Cuore spinoff.

Marcus isn't good at a lot, but he is an expert at replaying Final Fantasy games despite there being a lot of good stuff out there. He also loves comics, board games, and anime. He thinks Chip Zdarsky is a treasure.
