Not a lot was released this week, but that won’t stop the Hop!
Choujin X Ch. 4 – B-
Tokio is still trying to be independent and switch out of his Choujin form. He also can apparently speak to birds now, so he decides to find a vulture at the zoo to seek its advice. The final panel of this chapter was super telegraphed but it still made for a cool image. I’m liking Tokio a bit more just because of his desire to be more than just his friend’s sidekick. Hopefully, this series continues to trend upward with more intriguing moments. That, and I hope to see lots of weird and interesting Choujin.
Dragon Ball Super Ch. 74 – A-
With Goku out of commission, Vegeta and Granolah face off. Speaking purely as a Vegeta fan, chapters like these are what I live for in this series. This battle is interesting as well because as Vegeta himself states, this isn’t a battle to protect the planet or save people… It’s just a pure fight for the sake of fighting. While Granolah might have a bone to pick with the Saiyans, Goku and Vegeta themselves have no stake in the fight. Thus, the two heroes are just fighting for fun more or less. Vegeta also reaches a new form which most likely will reflect his god of destruction training (he’s even sporting the eyebrow-less look like Beerus). I’m excited to see what he can do with this new form, but knowing Toriyama and Toyotaro they’re not going to let Vegeta actually win this battle. Still, I will continue to commend dragon ball super for giving Vegeta legitimately compelling character growth, and this chapter is just another example of that.
Kaiju No. 8 Ch. 40 – B+
Kafka joins the first division alongside Shinomiya. Now the strongest Kaiju is part of the strongest anti-Kaiju division. Even though gen currently isn’t impressed, Kafka has a habit of endearing himself to those around him (including the reader). There are still several characters like Reno and Hoshino we haven’t seen in a while. With the story’s current trajectory, I don’t think they’ll be interacting with Kafka anytime soon. Still, maybe we’ll see what they’re up to in future chapters.
Spy x Family Ch. 50 – B+
Another solid chapter with the family, including a small Bond cameo! I love how seriously Twilight takes his job as a parent, but it’s also funny seeing how totally out of his depth he is when trying to understand what Anya is thinking. The next chapter should bring Yor’s assassin plot to a climax, so we will soon find out if Yor’s cover will be blown or if her mission will go off without a hitch.
