The first official trailer for It: Chapter Two was unveiled today. Based on the Stephen King novel, It: Chapter Two is the sequel to 2017’s It adaptation starring Bill Skarsgård as the titular monster terrorizing the fictional town of Derry, Maine.
While the 2017 film focused on the Losers’ Club’s first encounter with Pennywise the Dancing Clown, Chapter Two takes place twenty-seven years in the future and will follow the now-adult members of the Losers’ Club returning to Derry to face It once again.
It: Chapter Two will, of course, feature a new adult cast taking on the roles of the Losers, including big stars like James McAvoy, Bill Hader, and Jessica Chastain. But it won’t be entirely new faces involved with the project. Along with Skarsgård reprising his role as Pennywise, Andy Muschietti and Gary Dauberman also return as director and screenwriter respectively.
It was both a critical and commercial success when it released, and was one of my favorite movies of 2017. With the star-power behind it along with returning director and writer, I’m just as excited about this sequel as I was for the first movie. While the second half of the 1990 miniseries was weaker than the first in my opinion, I’m hopeful that this time around Chapter Two will be just as strong as the first.
It: Chapter Two is set to release in the United States on September 6, 2019.
