With the pandemic starting to come to an end, it’s getting easier for family and friends to reunite and enjoy each other’s company. For some groups, a nice party game is a great way to make everyone laugh and feel like they are human beings again. What The Dub?! is a party game that feels like it belongs in a Jackbox Party Pack, making it the perfect game for up to twelve people to pick up and play.
What The Dub?! is a party game that uses clips of old movies, tv shows, and weird advertisements. Each player uses a smartphone to overdub missing dialogue and audio. After every player has added something funny, witty, or just awful, the clip will reroll with a robot voice reading everyone’s lines. Players can then vote on their favorite, giving points to the players with votes.
This goes on for a few rounds, and in the end, whoever has the most points wins. It’s a simple game that doesn’t really have too much variety when it comes to ways to play. There is really only one mode, and even the game’s settings don’t allow players to tweak their experience by much. Despite this, What The Dub?! does its one trick really well.
With the right group, What The Dub?! can be absolutely hilarious. Like most improv party games though, if the players don’t have the ability to think fast, this game can be a chore to play. Fans of the comedy Jackbox games will find themselves right at home. Really, What The Dub?! can hang with some of the best that Jackbox has to offer. My group of friends had tears at some of the punchlines we delivered. There are over 300 scenes for players to dub, ensuring that there is a lot of content in this package. Our group never ran into the same clip twice.
The clips vary in how well they set players up for a funny joke. There are plenty of scenes to dub, but some just aren’t interesting to work with. There are many more funny clips than there are boring ones though, so players aren’t likely to have entirely lackluster sessions.
There isn’t a whole lot to What The Dub?! but that doesn’t stop it from being an enjoyable distraction with the right group. Fans of Jackbox will want to add this to their party night lineup.
