Another NeoGeo collection arrives on the Switch. 10 more titles are available on this collection, and most of them are worth your time if you enjoy retro games. Here we will give a micro review for each game. Overall, SNK vs Capcom Card Fighters Clash is the most noteworthy entry, but the rest of the titles can entertain for a little while too.
“SNK VS. CAPCOM CARD FIGHTERS’ CLASH” (Japanese & English)
This might be the strongest title in this package, and is almost worth the entire price of admission by itself. Fans of card battlers and the various fighters that are represented in this game will both find something special in this package. Despite it’s age, this is actually a deep card battler with tons of depth. It’s not the most accessible game in this lineup, but that doesn’t stop it from shining.
“BIG BANG PRO WRESTLING” (Japanese & English)
This one is actually a lot of fun, whether players are wrestling fans or not. It has a nice arcade feel, many characters, and intuitive controls.
“BIOMOTOR UNITRON” (Japanese & English)
This dungeon crawler is actually a fully realized game, giving tons of value to fans of the genre. The storytelling i fun enough, and the RPG mechanics hold up even today, even if they aren’t as deep as some of the heavy hitters of the day.
“MEGA MAN BATTLE & FIGHTERS” (Japanese)
We already reviewed this title when it released as a standalone eShop game. This is a fun two player arcade fighter that doesn’t get the love that it deserves with this port. Despite the game having been released in English before, this port is only in Japanese. Still, if players are willing to put up with the language barrier, this is a solid addition to this collection.
“PUZZLE LINK2” (Japanese & English)
Pieces fall from the top of the screen, and players line them up to make rows. It sounds pretty typical, but there is more depth than it seems, especially when it comes to competitive games in local multiplayer.
“GANBARE NEO POKE-KUN” (Japanese)
This pet owning simulators is more of a novelty than anything else. Microgames break up the gameplay loop, but the language barrier here really prevents it from being special.
“THE KING OF FIGHTERS BATTLE DE PARADISE” (Japanese)
It’s Mario Party with a King of Fighters coat of paint. The manual helps translate, but this is another entry that is harder to dive into because of the language barrier. If the player puts in the time, this is a fun little experience, especially if they are a fan of the franchise. Otherwise, this will mostly be a forgettable but quaint experience.
“BASEBALL STARS COLOR” , “POCKET TENNIS COLOR” & “NEOGEO CUP ’98 PLUS COLOR” (Japanese & English)
All of these are painfully simple arcade sports games. They are fun for just a few games, then their charm wears out quickly. There might not be a much better tennis alternative on the Switch, but it isn’t hard to find better baseball and soccer arcade games.
