There will always be a place on the Nintendo Switch for solid dungeon crawling JRPGs. The portable console hybrid makes for a fantastic environment for players to jump in and out of while going through the typically grueling genre. Demon Gaze Extra is the latest dungeon crawler to grace the Switch, and is yet another success for fans of the genre.
Demon Gaze Extra is the complete version of Demon Gaze, which originally released on the PS Vita in . While the dungeon crawler didn’t do particularly well, was still met with praise by fans of dungeon crawlers. The gameplay is about what one would expect from the genre, those it certainly isn’t as harcore as some of the other games in the genre. The gameplay loop consists of accepting quests, going through dungeons, and upgrading the party in between runs. Battles are your typical turn-based affairs while dungeon crawling is walking around in first person. The shading looks great too, making this one of the better looking anime-esque dungeon crawlers. There is a lot of fanservice throughout though, so players who aren’t a fan of unnecessary emphasis on boobs and butts may want to stay clear. Still, there are games that have much more fanservice in the genre, so it’s never too extreme.
It’s not innovative, but Demon Gaze EXTRA has all of the pieces needed to deliver an entertaining journey for players.
