In our review of Children of Morta, I said that the game is a neat experience that combines solid action roleplaying with a fair, roguelike approach. Years later, Children of Morta is still one of the best action-roleplaying games on the Switch. It’s solid cooperative mechanics and beautiful story make it one of a kind. Since the game’s release in 2019, developer Dead Mage has steadily added new content, from characters, dungeons, and systems. Ancient Spirits is the latest update, coming with the game’s second piece of paid DLC.
Ancient Spirits’ main addition is the new character Yajouj’Majouj. The new character is unique as the only one who comes with two forms. Each from plays differently allowing for players to switch styles when needed or combine the two. It’s a dynamic new way to play and while Yajouj’Majouj isn’t the easiest character to learn in Children of Morta, it’s satisfying once the gameplay is figured out.
In addition to the new character, players are also treated to a few new goodies as well. This includes new skins for each character in the form of unique masks.
Ancient Spirits is included in the newly released Children of Morta: Complete Edition on the Nintendo eShop for $26.99. This version includes all of the patches and two paid DLC packs.
