Peaceful and cozy townbuilders are a good time. The Switch has a few small games that give nice little experiences like Townscaper and Dorfromantik and there is plenty of room for more. Match Village looks like one of those games, but it plays more like a basic match-three game with a different theme.
Players are given a blank island with some tiles, and they have a deck of buildings that when grouped, make a larger version of themselves and give the player more tools and points to work with. Players will try to grow their little village as much as possible to maximize their score before running out of cards in their deck.
It works well, and it’s an excellent value for the price point. There isn’t much depth and no extra game modes, but it’s a nice game to pick and play now and again. Players aren’t building a town, they are just matching things that look alike and pair well with similar tiles. Still, it looks nice in the end, and it at least looks like players made a nice town creatively.
It’s not a game that is made to be played for large bursts of time, but it is a nice game to pick up and play occasionally. That’s perfect for the Switch.
Match Village
Match Village is a match-three puzzle game disguised as a town-building game, but that isn't a bad thing.
