Pathfinder: War of Immortals pulls players into Godsrain, an age of divine conflict and legendary feats. This rulebook expands on Pathfinder 2E’s celebrated mechanics, offering players and GMs the tools they need to craft epic, mythic-level campaigns. Packed with lore, new gameplay options, and stunning artwork, it’s both a guidebook and yet another immersive gateway.

    What’s Inside?

Pathfinder: War of Immortals is full of options for players and GMs looking to dive into mythic adventures. Its nearly 300 pages deliver tools for character creation, world-building, and gameplay that emphasize the epic scale of this era.

    • Legendary Heroes (41 pages): Introduces two new classes—the Animist and the Exemplar. The Animist channels spirits for versatile spellcasting, while the Exemplar uses divine relics to bolster allies and strike with sacred power. Each class includes extensive creation and progression tools, with over 15 pages dedicated to customization.
    • Servants of Power (20 pages): Expands on divine champions, their powers, and their roles during this tumultuous era.
    • Myths and Legends (33 pages): Offers GMs guidance for mythic storytelling, including narrative structure and lore for creating epic adventures.
    • Paths to Immortality (39 pages): Focuses on late-game archetypes and nine new mythic archetypes to elevate characters to godlike status.
    • Mythic Vault (22 pages): Features an array of mythic spells, weapons, artifacts, and rituals inspired by folklore and legends.
    • Mythic Monsters (51 pages): A highlight of the book, this chapter provides templates for crafting mythic threats and a bestiary of awe-inspiring creatures.

    Storytelling & Worldbuilding

One of War of Immortals‘ standout features is its seamless integration of mechanics and roleplaying. Character creation tools offer more than stats; they provide narrative prompts like “You Might,” “Others Probably,” and situational roleplay ideas for combat, exploration, and downtime. These blurbs encourage players to think deeply about their character’s personality and backstory.

For GMs, the book acts as both a rulebook and a storytelling guide. It provides a step-by-step structure for mythic adventures, mirroring the stages of a heroic journey: the Calling, trials, the Ordeal, and ultimate Immortality. There’s also a wealth of worldbuilding material, from the state of various regions during Godsrain to detailed lore about the forces shaping the era. Whether you’re crafting an epic campaign or a one-shot, this book is packed with tools to make the story fit into the lore.

    Gameplay & Mechanics

The two new classes—Animist and Exemplar—are meticulously detailed, offering players many options for customization and progression. True to Pathfinder’s style, these classes intertwine mechanics and roleplaying, making every choice feel narratively significant. For example, the Animist’s bond with spirits can influence not just their spells but also their interactions with the world.

The new mythic subsystem is a game-changer, perfect for players seeking a higher level of gameplay. Mythic Points are a rare resource, gained through legendary deeds and mythic encounters, and can be spent to perform extraordinary feats. The system introduces mythic archetypes and feats that scale up to level 20, ensuring that characters remain engaging throughout their journey.

For GMs, the book offers clear guidance on designing mythic encounters and crafting mythic monsters using templates. These tools streamline encounter creation while leaving plenty of room for creativity. The short bestiary is packed with fierce, memorable creatures that will challenge even the most prepared party.

    Artwork & Presentation

The visual presentation of War of Immortals is nothing short of stunning. Each chapter opens with an illustrated narrative featuring two heroes from the Godsrain tie-in novel, giving the book the feel of a living chronicle rather than a dry rulebook. The handwritten fonts and art bring a sense of immersion, making it feel like a relic of the Godsrain era.

As always with Pathfinder, the artwork is top-tier. The detailed illustrations break up the text in a way that enhances readability while drawing you deeper into the world. Whether it’s a towering mythic monster or a mystical artifact, the visuals bring the game’s themes to life.

    Is It Worth It?

For players and GMs interested in mythic adventures, War of Immortals is an essential addition to their Pathfinder collection. The book offers tools for epic storytelling, deep character creation, and thrilling gameplay mechanics. Even for those less interested in running mythic campaigns, the lore and narrative guidance alone makes it a worthy investment.

That said, it’s important to note that War of Immortals is just one piece of the Godsrain story. To fully immerse yourself in the era, you may want to explore the companion novel and Lost Omens Divine Mysteries. Taken together, they paint a vivid picture of one of Pathfinder’s most intriguing settings.
