August was a great month for great comic books! The writers here at Sequential Planet all picked our favorite books of the month. Let’s see what the best of the month was!
Ethan – Silver Surfer #3
It’s a testament to this book’s quality that it’s the worst issue of the series so far and it’s the best comic I read this month. Though it is peak Donny Cates, Tradd Moore is the hero of this story. Moore is drawing possibly the most beautiful, psychedelic, and unique looking books that I’ve ever seen. On top of that, Moore showcases some wild storytelling tactics on nearly every page, the likes of which I’ve never seen before. The fact that Marvel is allowing that to happen and not reigning him in at all is commendable. Now, it’s been about two weeks since I last popped open the issue, and it’s not the dialogue or specific story beats that have stuck with me; it’s those outrageous Tradd Moore pages. Get this man an award.
Matt D – Powers of X #3
Marcus – Powers of X #3
Basically what Matt said. I’ve been reading mediocre X-Men comics for what feels like almost a decade now. Hickman is putting together something special, and I can’t wait to see where he goes with my favorite Marvel characters.
Ryan – Once and Future #1
Once and Future #1 is the epitome of what a comic should be. It’s fun, it’s interesting, and it’s got an infinite amount of story potential. Written by Kieron Gillen, with art by Dan Mora, Once and Future #1 is an absolutely beautiful adventure through a brand new world and easily my favourite comic of the month.
