During a direct today, Nintendo has announced that the eighth generation of Pokemon will be titled Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield.
The new titles will release on Nintendo Switch sometime in late 2019. The games will take place in Galar, a new region to the series.
Pokemon Sword and Shield is the first mainline Pokemon game to debut on a home console and features three-dimensional graphics. It appears that the title will go back to some of the traditional mechanics present prior to the Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee, including catching pokemon and random encounters.
The three starters, Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble were shown during the direct. Aside from a small look at the protagonists, no other information was given by Nintendo.
