We took a week off, but we are back with the latest chapter of Chainsaw Man! Chapter 147 follows up one of the more action-heavy chapters in a few months and keeps all of that momentum going.
Quanxi gets to shine in this issue as she rescues Denji and “former Makima.” It’s another fast-paced issue that doesn’t focus on narrative except for one or two pages. Instead, readers are treated to panel after panel of chainsaw people being sliced apart by Quanxi. The pages look great, but there actually isn’t all that much movement between the panels. It’s a hop and a skip and a bunch of slices, and everything that happens likely happens in just a few seconds. Still, everything seems dynamic as Fujimoto builds the issue towards a fun little finish.

This is a hard chapter to review by itself since it is short and has almost nothing but action. There isn’t much to say about the plot, though the direction of religion, witches, and the end of days is explored well here. This issue has a few great expressions and reactions, and as always, the framing is superb, especially as one character declares another to be a harbinger of doom. All in all, this is good just “good comics.”
Readers will have to wait another two weeks to potentially see what happens to Asa, but I’m sure we are all used to suffering, right?
