Manga Review: Chainsaw Man Chapter 144

    Finally, some action.

If you’ve read my reviews of Chainsaw Man, you already know that I love it for everything it offers. This, of course, includes the ridiculous action and wild humor. Still, I also appreciate the smaller details, such as Fujimoto’s excellent framing during quiet moments. Every chapter of Chainsaw Man showcases why Fujimoto is one of the best creators in the medium, but even I’ve been craving a chapter filled with action. It feels like we haven’t seen an impressive one since the Chainsaw Motorcycle appeared in Chapter 130.

    But now we’re back.

This chapter is packed with firearms, along with some familiar fiends and hybrids, most of whom we’ve encountered before, even if only briefly. One character will be instantly recognizable to every reader due to their memorable design and recent prominence in the anime adaptation. It’s an issue that’s visually appealing, filled with exciting revelations and slick action sequences. Like the past few chapters, everything unfolds incredibly quickly, and before you know it, it’s over in the blink of an eye. Nevertheless, there’s always something to anticipate in the next chapter, even though readers will have to wait two weeks for Chapter 145.

Once again, Fujimoto makes brilliant use of staging and panel layouts to deliver the best possible scenes. The action is easy to follow, and every revelation packs a punch. It’s another lightning-fast chapter that reads at the intended pace.

Chainsaw Man Chapter 144 is a thrilling ride that instills hope in fans of deceased characters. Old faces are making a comeback with each passing chapter, and some fan favorites seem inevitable. Who’s next?

Marcus isn't good at a lot, but he is an expert at replaying Final Fantasy games despite there being a lot of good stuff out there. He also loves comics, board games, and anime. He thinks Chip Zdarsky is a treasure.
