Mangaka: Tatsuki Fujimoto

Things got a little too real last week in Chainsaw Man‘s 124th chapter when Asa and Yoru began using pain as a sedative for trauma. Of course, this was used to fight against the Falling Devil’s effects, and it’s another excellent example of how Fujimoto manages to blend humor, trauma, and action in one compelling comic.
With the Falling Devil’s sights on Asa and Yoru, it’s finally time for an exciting fight. Oh, you thought that would happen? Actually the majority of this issue is a shopping trip. After all, the Falling Devil can’t cook without her ingredients.
This chapter is full of humor and culinary puns. The Falling Devil walking into a grocery store for apples is genuinely funny. After a few jokes, we get a little action when some humans attempt to take the devil down, and then this is followed by a bloody panel, but not necessarily caused by who you would assume.
Chapter 125 is another great looking issue, with easy to follow panel layouts the complement the mundane moments quite well. A simple grocery trip is both hilarious and unnerving thanks to the way it’s drawn and framed.
The second half of the issue is chaotic, with all of the destruction and blood that one would expect from Fujimoto. It’s a satisfying chapter to look at, especially because the action narrates just fine without any words. In fact, readers that actually take in the art will see a character do something that they have never done before. It’s not even commented on. It just happens and readers will look at it and say “Huh, that’s cool.”
Chainsaw Man will be back next week, so we don’t have to wait long to see where this fight goes.
