Guildmaster Games, publisher of games like Trust Me I’m A Doctor and Xenohunters has revealed the “Trust Me I’m a Collection.” This new project that can be backed on Kickstarter features both Trust Me I’m a Doctor and Trust Me I’m a Superhero, and two expansions for each.
Trust Me I’m a Doctor is a party game in which one player, the patient, reveals an ailment that is plaguing them. The other players act as doctors, who will play two cards from their hands and try to convince the patient that their treatment is the best one for them. The ailments and cures are all based on old-world medicine, with most of them having questionable treatments by today’s medical standards such as bloodletting or cocaine. The Kickstarter campaign includes reward tiers that offer the Surgeons At Sea and Witchcraft & Wizardry expansion sets.
Trust Me I’m a Superhero is a similar party game, but utilizes a superhero theme instead. One player acts as a citizen in distress, while the other players use their power cards to pitch why they are the best superhero for the job. The Kickstarter campaign includes the Silly and NSFW expansions.
Both games are enjoyable and will appeal to different audiences, but both require a table where the players are willing to put in the work and be silly. Sequential Planet is particularly fond of Trust Me I’m a Doctor and its grotesque cards that require us to pitch something that we don’t believe in. It’s loud, messy, and has tons of replayability. It’s a party game that doesn’t feel meanspirited or intentionally offensive like most modern party games do. It will also lead to many players googling lesser-known procedures and then cringing for the rest of the night.
Trust Me I’m A Superhero can appeal to a wider audience, and allows for just as much creativity and even roleplaying. Players won’t cringe as much, but it makes this a more accessible experience.
There are many tiers available on Kickstarter, with some just including base games or expansions, and others that include various combinations. The campaign will run until Thursday, October 13th.
