Formaggio, a standalone expansion to Fromage, is set to launch on Kickstarter on March 12, 2025, at 9 AM CDT.
Designed by Ben Rosset (The Search for Planet X), Formaggio allows players to step into the role of Italian cheesemakers in the early 20th century, crafting, aging, and selling artisanal cheeses to gain Prestige Points and become the most renowned creamery in Italy. The game builds on Fromage’s simultaneous worker-placement mechanics while introducing four new cheesemaking mini-games, seasonal abilities, platinum-tier cheeses, and new structure abilities.
While Formaggio can be played on its own, it is fully compatible with Fromage, allowing players to mix and match any four board quadrants. The game features a rotating board, which ages cheese after each worker-placement phase, providing fresh opportunities each round.
Each of Formaggio’s four new quadrants presents a different cheesemaking challenge:
- Vigneto – Pair cheeses with wines to maximize prestige.
- Venetian Canals – Sell cheese to high-end restaurants and attract customers.
- Regioni of Italy – Expand distribution across Italy’s regions.
- Banca – Deposit cheese as collateral for loans, inspired by real Italian banking practices.
