First Impressions: OH! My Office

OH! My Office is an office management gacha game by Twitchy Finger. It can be found in the Google Play Store and features a cute chibi office that does a fine job at passing by time for players.

After a short download, I was sent to the game’s tutorial, where it is explained to the player that their father’s business has gone under. As everyone is leaving, a girl appears, offering the opportunity to go back in time to change the company’s fate. Upon going back, it becomes rather clear to players why the business went under, and it starts with the lazy employees.

The game’s stages are separated into days, where the player must manage the employees to ensure that the company can reach the day’s quota. The employees get distracted easily, so players will need to tap their desk to get their attention. Sometimes, an employee is so distracted that a tap won’t do it, and the player will need to long press in order to bring a mallet down on the desk. In between the discipline, players will need to ensure that their employees get the breaks they need to succeed.

The gameplay is simple enough but after an hour of playing it’s easy to see that the game can easily become challenging, especially if the player doesn’t have great employees. Employees are summoned via a gacha system, and as expected, different employees excel in different areas (With higher rarity employees appearing to have more upside). With a full staff, players will be constantly racing around the screen to optimize profits, especially if they aren’t lucky enough to pull rare units. So far it seems like it is easy enough to succeed without spending any actual money, but it will certainly be a challenge down the road. Players will constantly be searching and tapping, with a level of engagement that isn’t as common in gacha games.

It seems that there isn’t too much content in this game though, and if the main story mode doesn’t interest a player, there isn’t going to be too much reason to play. There aren’t really any modes besides an AFK grinding mechanism. The summonable characters are diverse enough in appearance in stats, but they don’t change the game enough. Players have the ability to customize the office, but they will need to spend in-game currency to do so. Fortunately, coins are easy to gather, but the premium currency is rather slow, and most players won’t want to spend this on cosmetics. Usually pulling units is the main reason to play these games, so this could turn away some players. Still, one of the login bonuses is a 10x summon ticket, so it’s possible that that kind of generosity from the developers will continue.

When stamina depletes, players are encouraged to watch ads in order to refresh their employees. I’m not too against this kind of system, because it allows for players to enjoy the game at their own pace, rather than waiting for stamina to replenish. What I am not a fan of is the way the game uses watching ads as a means of increasing the score of a level. It’s cheap tactic and overall a bad practice.

I did experience a few crashes while playing, and also found myself wanting to mute the volume due to the obscenely loud confirmation bell. The in-game sound effects are cute but mostly seem like stock noises. The menus are rather minimalistic, which makes navigation easy. Most of this minimalism comes from the lack of content though, so it is a double-edged sword. Hopefully everything remains clean as the developers add to the game.

OH! My Office is an enjoyable side-gacha game that offers a cute and fast-paced experienced. While the ads can be a bit intrusive, it doesn’t completely ruin the experience. If the premium currency is given out generously, I can see myself playing this one for a bit.
