    Comic Review: Unnatural #4

    Unnatural #4

    Image Comics

    Writer: Mirka Andolfo

    Artist: Mirka Andolfo

Irony, traitors, kidnapping, and a mysterious hooded figure? The last issue in this first volume of Unnatural seriously has it all.

Just as the cover suggests, we finally get a glance at the wolf of Leslie’s fantasies, and he’s not at all what I expected. After Leslie has yet another intense, graphic dream, things start to get supernatural. Not only is Leslie acting out of character, but Jones is back, and he’s not as charming as I remember. As he continues to wreak havoc on behalf of Glance, which is a secret organization up to no good, Leslie must prove her innocence in Trish’s murder case.

    Unnatural #4

I’ve had nothing but good things to say about this series since its release, but out of all four issues, this is my least favorite. It seems a little more rushed than the first three issues, and the colors don’t pop off the page as well either. Granted, the story is getting a lot darker, which could account for the shift in color change, but I miss the brightness of the previous issues.

Regardless of how I feel about the colors, the art is still insanely genius. Andolfo once again nails the expressions and emotions of her characters and makes me feel a bit emotional, too. I’m in love with the last panel despite how ominent this new character looks: intimidating and unshakable. It was the perfect way for Andolfo to reveal who is behind Glance without giving away too much. Trouble and adventure loom ahead for our sweet swine Leslie, and although I’m nervous for her, Andolfo’s sneak peek at the end of this issue promises Vol. 2 will be just as juicy.

    Unnatural #4

Unnatural promises to return December 5 with issue #5. The TP for Volume 1: Awakening will be available November 21.

Often being mistaken for a teenager herself, Chelsea is a teacher in Arkansas, which you've probably never been to. She is a competitive runner and lover of Image Comics. Although she loves to read and watch new content, she can't help but rewatch episodes of The Office, which is really hurting her chances of finishing her own novel.
