    Comic Review: Titans #30

    Titans #30

    DC Comics

    Writer: Dan Abnett

    Artist: Minkyu Jung

The new Titans team is having a bit of a rough go at things right now. Nightwing got shot and is no longer leading the team. Then some old oceanic space gods invade and start drowning the Earth. And in the middle of the drowning, the Titans got stranded across the universe with no way home. To top that all off, in the last issue, Beast Boy lost control and started attacking his teammates.

Now in Titans #30 Miss Martian, in her true White Martian form, calms him down and stops the attack. With Beast Boy calmed down, the team sits around a fire and takes in their situation. Donna Troy, the only original Titan on the team opens up and takes leadership of the team.

I’ve got a bit of mixed feelings for this issue. It feels like a filler issue because nothing big happens for most of it. But at the same time, there’s some character and team building happening, and I enjoy that aspect of it. Them being stranded is really just a plot device to get  Kyle Rayner on the team. I don’t mind that either, hopefully, it’ll add a good new dynamic to the group. The Character moments in this issue are good, but overall this feels like a filler arc. With what’s happening with Nightwing, I understand why they need to change things around. But I think it could’ve been done in a more natural way.

The art in this issue is good. The action is good, mainly the Miss Martian versus Beast Boy fight at the start. They both look monstrous, as they should in their current states. Everyone else looks good, but I really like the way Beast Boy and Miss Martian look. There are some good backgrounds and scenery. It doesn’t quite feel like an unknown alien planet like they’re supposed to be on. But that’s not a big deal in any way.

    Titans (2016-) #30

We never got an explanation as to why the original Titans team broke up, I don’t think. One issue they’re a team, and then No Justice happens, and now we’ve got a new team. We might not get a full explanation, but I think this issue helps solidify the new team as a team. Donna Troy makes sense as the new leader, and the team definitely has chemistry together. There’s not too much action in this issue. Besides some good character moments, not much really happens. But the action and character moments in this are good. If you’ve been enjoying Titans so far, you’ll like this. If you haven’t been reading this, you should check out the new team.

    Titans #30

    6.5 Average Read

Titans #30 feels like a filler issue, with not too much happening, but is carried by good art and the characters interacting.
