    The Terrifics #7

    DC Comics

    Writer: Jeff Lemire

    Artist: Dale Eaglesham

The New Age Of Heroes? More like The New Golden Age of Heroes! More fun action-packed foursome adventure brought to you by Jeff Lemire and Dale Eaglesham!

This week you are not only treated to one action-packed adventure story with our favourite fearless and fantas—errr….. team! But we are treated with the adventures of Tom Strong! DC’s Two-in-One for this arc it seems. From the start of this series, the Terrifics had enigmatically been tied to the mysterious adventurer and hero named Tom Strong, who as some of you reader’s know, is a character created by Alan Moore as this Golden Age ‘science hero’. And now we finally get shown who exactly this guy is, and Lemire just throws us straight into what seems like an old comic, something he seems to be fond of with his series Black Hammer with Dark Horse. It’s honestly such a fun issue as we see Tom’s struggle against his evil science enemy Paul Saveen, with antics such as the Phantom Bomb and a giant Zepplin, this is everything you’d want in a fun comic.

As we follow up on Strong’s adventures in Millenium City, and how this is going to go drastically awry, we return to our beloved team who are recovering from the events of the previous issue. I don’t know what Lemire does better, the multiversal antics or the character interactions. Each is fun to read on there own, and all work perfectly. The pacing of the issue is also great; we get thrown into the action, have a few pages of interaction to mellow out, only to be twisted and warped back into the action again. The Terrifics arriving in Millenium City and interacting with that world is fantastic and is only a taste of what is to come. Lemire has a good understanding of how to recreate the nostalgic feeling of wonder and excitement from comics of old.

Art is drawn by Dale Eaglesham and by God does it look great. The action, the designs, everything is portrayed perfectly in this art, and I absolutely love the detail. Something about the way the faces are drawn and the colours really does help emphasize the feeling of an old Golden or Silver Age comic but has this ‘modern’ layer to it. While I love Shaner’s art, Eaglesham is another great addition to the series.

This new arc is just another addition to the fun that we’ve been having. More multiversal antics with the team as they begin to explore Millenium City. Now that they’re going to be face to face with Tom Strong, and quite possibly be facing their new arch-enemy, I can’t wait to see what Lemire has in store for this team. I’m glad to see the series is doing well, it’s easily one of the best New Age of Heroes books and brings back a lot of old fun adventurous tropes that I’m sure any comic book lover will enjoy.
