The Silencer (2018-) #18
DC Comics
Writer: Dan Abnett
Artist: V. Ken Marion
The cover of this issue boldly claims “The New Age of Heroes!” but that’s no longer true. Every New Age of Heroes title is over with, except for The Terrifics. But they’re mostly a team of already established characters. But, we’re here to talk about the final issue of The Silencer.
Honor Guest is with her family again, after some favors from other Leviathan agents. The Guest family is moving to a different state, hoping for a fresh start. But before they can leave, Honor needs to find out when the other shoe will drop, when Leviathan comes for her.
I’m not happy with this series ending, it’s easily my favorite from the New Age of Heroes. But I am happy with how it’s ending. The Silencer has gone through a gauntlet, just in the hopes of trying to lead a normal life with her family. And you know what? Here in this issue, it looks like she’s going to get it. Of course there’s some iffyness, so she’s got to go do some last minute assassin/infiltration work. Even my biggest “I want to see this happen” thing is addressed. Blake, the husband, curious about the circumstances of his wife’s death/disappearance from the last arc, comes to an acceptance of it.
I also really like the art in this issue. V. Ken Marion is the artist for this last arc (#16 – #18) and I like his style. There’s a lot of energy to it, but there’s no “real” action scenes in this issue. The Silencer, using her silencing powers, breaks into a place, and I like the way her powers are on display. As I’m writing this though, the tone of this final story doesn’t really need any fighting or action. It fits with Silencer wanting to lead a regular life. Regardless, the art suits the story.
DC is doing Event Leviathan right now, and a big part of The Silencer since the beginning is Leviathan. I don’t know if the Silencer will be involved, but I hope so. This is one of my favorite new characters of the last few years, and I hope she doesn’t go away. But, this issue is a good ending for the character for now. She’s been fighting to have a regular, normal life, and it looks like she’s going to get it. If you’ve been a fan of the series since the start, there’s no reason you wouldn’t enjoy this issue.

The Silencer (2018-) #18 is the final issue in the series, and delivers a good ending for the character, with some great art.
