    Comic Review: Sex Criminals #27

    Sex Criminals #27

    Image Comics

    Writer: Matt Fraction

    Artist: Chip Zdarsky

In case you haven’t heard, Sex Criminals came back last month! This is also the final arc of the series. Sex Criminals #27 starts to pick the pace a bit, leading to Suzie wanting answers and Jon just being there, being Jon.

Sex Criminals #27 is a pretty standard issue for the series. There are plenty of funny jokes, both sexual and not really sexual. The character work is astonishing as always, and the dialogue feels real and sincere. Matt Fraction has done a fantastic job at creating these characters, and watching them build towards the end is bittersweet.

Jon and Suzie take the spotlight in this issue with a few small but significant appearances from the supporting cast. The characters continue to be on both the same and different wavelengths. Sometimes things are pure ecstasy and other times the situation is just bewildering. Still, this only makes the characters more human, something that Fraction has always excelled at doing.

Throughout the issue, readers will get the sense that this issue is building up to something. Unsurprisingly, every interaction and event is building up to a confusing and shocking final page. Every time Sex Criminals has the opportunity to do the comfortable thing, the creative team does something bold. That’s what makes this series so special. The creative team is bold and makes the most out of every moment to make the series better through innovative storytelling methods.

Chip Zdarsky continues to sprinkle tons of personality into every panel. His sense of humor carries the tone of Sex Criminals in a way an artist has never done before in the medium. Few comic books truly feel like they are created by both writers and artists in a way that this one does.

Sex Criminals #27 is another strong issue by Fraction and Zdarsky. With only a few issues left, it’s about time for us to accept that we will need to say goodbye to this incredible couple.

Marcus isn't good at a lot, but he is an expert at replaying Final Fantasy games despite there being a lot of good stuff out there. He also loves comics, board games, and anime. He thinks Chip Zdarsky is a treasure.
