Seven To Eternity #14
Image Comics
Writer: Rick Remender
Artists: Jerome Opeña & Matt Hollingsworth
One of the best adventures in comic books is nearing its end. Seven To Eternity #14 is the first issue of the series’ final arc. For those who have been following the series since the beginning, the wait has been unbearable. The arcs are constantly separated long hiatuses, but the wait is always worth it. Things are no different in this issue.
The arc opens with Adam and Garils leaving behind the destruction that they caused in the previous arc. Both characters are broken and are barely able to push forward. The two soon arrive at their destination – the Springs that will heal Adam. Rick Remender and the rest of the team do a fantastic job of making the journey feel worth it. The characters’ arrival is gorgeous, with yet another wildly imaginative setting for the reader to dive into. The locales, characters, and rituals fill the panels with a sense of wonder. Most books would dream about achieving the level of worldbuilding.
Not only is Seven to Eternity a fantastic adventure, but it is also full of compelling character moments too. Adam and the Mud King have built an unlikely friendship over the years. The banter that we are seeing now seemed impossible during the first half of the series. Still, it’s incredibly authentic and sincere. The characters and their motivations naturally push the narrative forward. Every action is easy to understand. We know them incredibly well, but at the same time, they constantly surprise us. It’s hard to believe that we have been treated to so much story in only fourteen issues.
Of course, Seven To Eternity is nothing without the rest of the creative team. Jerome Opeña and Matt Hollingsworth come together to bring the world to life (And more). The second half of the issue is full of spectacles. The environments are absolutely gorgeous. The spreads are full of details and packed with life. No panel is wasted on this issue. Matt Hollingsworth is one of the best colorists in the industry. His work not only adds even more depth to the art, but it also sets the tone of each page for the reader. Lately, Remender has done nothing but praise the artists of this book, and for good reason. It feels like their souls were put into these pages.
Seven To Eternity #14 prepares readers for the end of the series. Remender, Opeña, and Hollingsworth are all masters of their crafts. This issue is spectacular and promises a riveting conclusion for readers to enjoy.
