Seven To Eternity #11
Image Comics
Writer: Rick Remender
Artist: Jerome Opena
Seven To Eternity #10 marked the return of one of the best fantasy comics in the medium. It took almost a year for the series to return, but when it did, it felt like the story took a step back in quality. Fortunately, with Seven To Eternity #11, the series is back in true form.
Adam and Garil have found themselves in a pretty bad spot. After their capture within the sky city, the two are at the mercy of Volmer. Of course, the remaining members of Adam’s former crew are also hot on his heels.
In Seven To Eternity #11, Rick Remender continues to tell a strong story through meaningful dialogue and effective pacing. The issue trades fast-paced action for scenes full of tension, and it pays off. Adam’s decisions are constantly being questioned, and the line between good and bad constantly get blurrier. At this point, it almost feels like there aren’t any heroes or villains in this series. The characters are remarkably dynamic despite the large cast.
When I started this series, I didn’t expect Adam and Garil’s relationship to be this interesting. Remender has ensured that each character has grown, with Adam being more than his father’s follower and Garil more than a tyrant. Remender’s characters are often his greatest strength, and that continues to be the case in Seven To Eternity. What makes this series different from his others is how he excels in just about every aspect of storytelling. When this series is at its best, it is the best book on the shelves. While issue #11 doesn’t have the epic battles of the previous issues, it sets the series up for moments more spectacular than we have seen.
Jerome Opena continues to grow with every issue, as he makes Zhal his own. Every character has excellent design, with an incredible amount of detail present amongst all of the races and factions. Matt Hollingsworth’s colors are just superb. Despite the numerous environments present in Seven To Eternity, every one of them looks unique, with the perfect mood present for the right moment.
Seven To Eternity #11 focuses on building the world and characters, making for an insightful and tense read. Despite the issue being mostly exposition, it is still one of the most entertaining issues yet. Seven To Eternity demands to be read. No other book has built such a full world in such a short amount of time.
