Oblivion Song #7
Image Comics
Writer: Robert Kirkman
Artist: Lorenzo De Felici
Oblivion Song might be the best Kirkman story going right now. Every previous issue has moved this narrative forward and kept us coming back. The is the first issue of the second arc and is Kirkman still reeling us in? Let’s find out!
The end of the first arc left us with Nathan in custody and his brother Ed wandering the real world that he is not used to. This issue spends most of the time with Nathan telling his story of the Transference and how it happened. This has been a mystery to us since the last issue when Nathan told the government that it was all his fault. Here, we expand on that with Nathan’s full account of what happened in the years and months leading up to the event that changed the world. We check in on Ed for a brief moment to hammer home that he is now a fish out of water in Philadelphia since reluctantly returning from Oblivion. The future looks bleak for Nathan until the final pages where he finds an unusual ally.
Kirkman is still writing a good book, although this issue is mostly in the past. It is more a focus on characters and laying a foundation for this next arc. Per usual, he leaves us on a high note with hope for Nathan.
De Felici is unable to really show off in this issue. He gets some good panels when we see the Transference begin and he gets to draw some beasts from Oblivion wreaking havoc on Philadelphia. I still feel the face details and designs are a bit awkward, but by now they have become recognizable and familiar.
Oblivion Song #7 is a necessary issue for the series since the mystery of the Transference has been looming since the premier. Kirkman has stated that he knows where this is going and has promised that it will be a fun ride. Every now and then you need an issue to world-build and tend to characters and this is what issue #7 is for Oblivion Song. I still highly recommend this series to anyone, and the final panels here vow to bring us more action in the coming issues.
Oblivion Song #7
In Oblivion Song #7 we get the full story behind the Transference and how it all came about. It was mostly a flashback, but important to the overall story.
