Jeepers Creepers #4
Dynamite Entertainment
Writer: Marc Andreyko
Artist: Kewber Baal
Readers…I know the covers are nice. The artwork is decent. Some of us even loved the movie(s), but this comic is just not getting better. I’m convinced this is not the fault of Kewber Baal. He is holding up his end of this series. However, the story is just an intelligible mess. Let’s check out our “hero’s” latest blunder.
In the previous issue, Devon went to Roanoke where he stumbled into what appeared to be a Renaissance fair of some sort. For no logical reason, Devon decides to take the dagger he received in Mexico and cut his hand. After this, the fair changes into the past, and he is thrown back to when the Lizard Man terrorized the colony of Roanoke. Once that scene is finished, he wakes up back at the fair in the present time with the word “Centralia” carved into his forearm.
In this issue, Devon is all of a sudden in the cave of the Lizard Man/Creeper and has to escape. Luckily he has the light of his…smart phone to guide him out through a…door? Really? Then we flashback to the mining company that created the tunnels and “door” that Devon was using to escape. Let’s cut to Devon’s last words of this issue: “I am so screwed.” This is the stuff we are working with here.
Marc Andreyko is killing me with this series. Each issue is just not justified. Devon’s actions are random, and the flashbacks are just more uninteresting material.
I mentioned earlier that the art of Kewber Baal is not the problem with this comic. I do wonder why they chose to never use his artwork for the original covers. The art that appears on the covers is amazing and not indicative at all of Baal’s work on the panels inside. Is artwork isn’t bad, and sometimes can even be great. As a whole, the comics are much more bright and colorful than the cover and substance suggests.
Readers, I will see you back here for the next installment, but so far I cannot recommend you pick up any issue in this series unless you are in love with the cover art. This issue is no different. It’s all a waste of our time. It just doesn’t want to make sense. It wants to jump around and never explain itself. You can most likely throw a dart in your local comic shop and hit a comic better than this one.
Jeepers Creepers #4
This series is a mess. This issue is a mess. Unless a miracle turns this around, I don't see Jeepers Creepers becoming worthy of your money or time.
