Injustice 2 #62
DC Comics
Writer: Tom Taylor
Artist: Daniel Sampere
They say that you can be green with envy. But what about green with revenge? It’s time for the Green Lanterns to finally get some good old fashioned payback in this weeks Injustice by writer Tom Taylor and artist by Daniel Sampere!
The Lanterns of Oa are finally seeing the light of victory, taking on the ruthless Red Lanterns and are led by the unlikeliest of allies. Taylor’s current arc is certainly reaching its epic climax and this issue continues to deliver more on the hype.
More focused on the characters this issue, Taylor gives vibes that he really wanted to write for Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps comic. I’ve found the Green Lantern arc to be the biggest highlight next to Plastic Man with other arcs being just fine, but he really stands out in these issues. There are some really great moments with Hal and how the Corp feels about him and Sinestro. The corp is broken and lost, and are steadily losing members by the minute. Is there any hope for them? Who will lead them against the wrathful monsters from above?
Once again we have a great moment between Blue Beetle and Booster Gold and just makes me keep my fingers crossed they both end up ok after this arc (this is Injustice, after all, death appears more times than a Crisis does here for crying out loud). Booster really has melded into the more ‘Big Brother’ role model for Jaimie which is what Ted always wanted.
This week’s art is again by Daniel Sampere with Juan Albarran on inks and John Kalisz on colors. As I said last week, the lighting and some of the dramatic shots are done perfectly. And there’s a brilliant large spread of the two Lantern Corps fighting in space aided by the Titans that looks wonderful. There’s also a brilliant shot of Hal that just sent shivers down my spine when reading.
Once again, the character spotlight goes to Lobo for humor and with the end of the issue only looks more promising for next week. I was genuinely cracking up with a sense of excitement at what Taylor is going to do with the character and I hope he delivers in the same madness as the rest of the series. There’s a lovely moment with Superboy and Wondergirl. Once again, Blue and Gold brings out the feels but honestly, the biggest standout was Hal. This arc did start off mainly with him and I’m glad it’s steering back in the direction, with this issue being a nice (but not full) return to the hothead we all know and love.
To sum it up: Injustice 2 is still fun and I kind of just want to continue reading more of Taylor’s wacky Lantern adventures rather than anything in this universe. Let’s just hope they beat the giant Patrick Red Star floating about and all go home as buddies again. Please?
