    Injustice 2 #61

    DC Comics

    Writer: Tom Taylor

    Artist: Daniel Sampere

Pants needed in Space Sector 0000! Repeat! Pants are URGENTLY needed in Space Sector 0000!  It’s a spaced-out skirmish brought to you by Tom Taylor and Daniel Sampere!

Continuing on from last weeks issue, we find our heroes arriving in Oa’s aid, who is facing assault at the hands of the wrathful Red Lantern Corps. This issue was action heavy and provided a number of laughs with the main man Lobo. As stated in last weeks review, I am a fan of the series and I have been enjoying the Green Lantern/Booster’s Titans story arc. Taylor is able to have fun with these characters and it shows in this issue.

    Injustice 2 (2017-) #61

Storywise: it’s a giant battle in space against some glowing green guys, glowing red guys, and a big mean starfish. It’s just fun. One thing that boggled my mind when reading this, however, is: “wow the stakes are a bit higher than the game….why WASN’T this in the game??” Most fans and even haters of the Injustice 2 comics have noticed that Taylor seems to veer away from the game’s storyline at times and just does his own thing. It feels like he is building his own universe. I must say, I’m enjoying it. I do look forward to reading some of these stories. There’s action, chaos, some meaningful moments, but it’s the humor that gets me the most.

This week’s art is by Daniel Sampere with Juan Albarran on inks and John Kalisz on colors. The lighting on some of these shots is gorgeous. Sampere really knows how to do dramatic scenes and gives plenty of energy in the fights. They help bring a sense of urgency of the heroes trying to protect Oa to the best of their ability and keep the story flowing. There is a lot to like but there is a very…..odd close-up of Superman (Superboy?) shouting that made me laugh at how he looked.

    Injustice 2 (2017-) #61

Characters this week were enjoyable, with Lobo being the highlight of the story. I was expecting some more Blue and Gold moments together, especially with how last weeks issue ended, but it seemed to focus more on the other team members. There’s plenty of laughs despite how serious this battle was.

Once again more madness is brought to you by the Injustice comic. It’s worth checking out as an EU story, or if you just want to have some fun.
