Green Arrow #46
DC Comics
Writers: Julie Benson & Shawna Benson
Artist: German Peralta
Hero, and former sidekick to Green Arrow, Roy Harper died. Taking a break for his funeral, Green Arrow and Black Canary are back in action. The Citizen is using social media to be judge, jury, and executioner against the 1% for their crimes.
In Green Arrow #46, The Citizen is inciting citizens into mobs attacking the rich, with Green Arrow and Black Canary out to stop him. The duo is tracking down leads into who The Citizen is, as well as looking into a hit and run perpetrated by a young Oliver Queen.
I like this issue, that should be said. The problems I have with it, I feel, are only present because of the writers leaving. Because the Benson sisters are leaving (kind of soon), a lot happens in this issue. We learn who the Citizen is, find proof of Oliver Queen’s innocence, and there’s also a kidnapping. By themselves, these things are all fine, and I’m sure they would happen anyway, but it feels a little rushed. I was never thinking Oliver Queen would go to prison, but it’s cool to see he’s willing to go, believing he is guilty. The Citizen’s Identity is revealed, and it lines up with what he’s doing. His motives aren’t outright explained, but the dots are easy to connect.
The art is my favorite part of this issue. Early on, there’s a cool panel of Green Arrow and Black Canary jumping over a balcony. Green Arrow is one of my favorite characters, and I’m a sucker for shots like that. German Peralta’s art, combined with John Kalisz’s colors are a great look for Green Arrow. Except at night, Green Arrow and Black Canary really pop, compared to everyone else. The panels showing action are great. I really like this style for Green Arrow.
This issue has a faster pace. I don’t really put blame on the writers for that though. It’s better than leaving the story without an ending. It’s certainly better than some other recent cases of a writer leaving a series. While the story is playing out a little predictably, I am enjoying it. On top of that, I am really digging the art. It’s really some of my favorite since the start of this series. I like this issue, it has some problems, but they aren’t a deal breaker. If you’ve been enjoying this series, or enjoy Green Arrow as a character, you’ll like this issue.
Green Arrow #46
A lot happens in Green Arrow #46, and it suffers from a quicker pace because of it. The art is great and makes the characters stand out in this style.
