Extermination #3
Marvel Comics
Writer: Ed Brisson
Artist: Pepe Larraz
The third chapter of extermination raises more questions than it answers but it does raise the tension for the miniseries. The original five X-Men get separated then placed with teams assigned to protect them. The menacing Ahab begins recruiting hounds and stepping up his attacks. Meanwhile, the mysterious young Nathan Summers becomes more desperate in his attempt to kidnap the original five.
Ahab is one of the characters that can seem a little goofy when you look at him, but under Ed Brisson’s writing he takes on a more frightening personality. Ahab’s ability to force mutants to act as hounds that track other mutants is scary. There is an intensity to Ahab not knowing why he has an interest in the original five as well.
Fixing the timeline seemed to be Nathan Summers motivation in the previous issues. This chapter shows the lengths he will go to make that happen. Nathan is becoming a character that becomes more and more interesting as the limited series continues. His attacks have caused Jean Grey to team up with the original X-Force. The X-Force team is looking to get revenge for the death of their former leader. Jean wishes to tag along with X-Force in order to get answers from Nathan.
The action of the issue looks great under the art of Pepe Larraz and Marte Garcia. The action resembles another series handled by the team in Avengers No Surrender. I really enjoyed the background of the panels.
With the tension picking up in the series and the characters becoming more interesting this is a book that I would definitely recommend. There would be more to be gained of course reading the first two books in the series, but that is to be expected.
Very few questions are answered in this chapter but the threat of the villains gets stronger. Ahab is becoming a more menacing presence. Nathan Summers is an interesting time cop. The art is just as strong as when the team worked on Avengers No Surrender. This issue gets a recommendation.
