Comic Review: Dead Man Logan #1

    Dead Man Logan #1

    Marvel Comics

    Writer: Ed Brisson

    Artist: Mike Henderson

The writing has been on the wall for a while, and his time has finally come. Old Man Logan is dying, and he only has twelve months to live. This isn’t the first time Wolverine has died though, and I doubt it’ll be the last. But I think this could be one of the characters to stay dead, like Uncle Ben or the Waynes.

    Dead Man Logan (2018-) #1 (of 12)

Following his fight with the Maestro, Forge and Glob find Logan near death. Waking up days later, Logan learns he only has twelve months to live before he dies of adamantium poisoning. With that in mind, he sets off to tie up “loose ends”. The first thing on his list is to take care of Mysterio, to prevent his future from happening again.

I’m hoping that Old Man Logan stays dead since regular, young man Logan is back. But whether he stays dead or not, I mostly like this first issue leading to his death. The story is basically the same as the first story arc in the Old Man Logan ongoing that just ended. Logan wants to stop his future from happening, so he’s hunting down the people that made it happen. That’s literally what the first arc was about. Even with that, it’s a good story. And I can always get behind Glob being involved in a story.

    Dead Man Logan (2018-) #1 (of 12)

This isn’t Mike Henderson’s first time drawing Old Man Logan. He did the art for the Deadpool vs Old Man Logan mini-series. I’m a little indifferent to that series, but don’t recall anything bad about the art. Same thing here, I don’t think there’s anything bad about the art in this issue. The characters are expressive, and the action looks good. Miss Sinister shows up and she looks a little bigger than I’d imagine. But, it’s consistent throughout the issue and fits in with the style of everything else.

I’m not a diehard Wolverine fan, but I’ve been enjoying his old man adventures. No matter what there’s no denying he’s a popular character, and Old Man Logan is a popular version of the character. I don’t mind it being a separate mini-series, if only because the title is so spot on. The story may not be anything we haven’t seen, but it looks like it’ll be going in an interesting direction. If you’ve been reading Old Man Logan, this is something you should be reading. It’s less of a new series, and much more a continuation of Old Man Logan.

Dead Man Logan #1 starts the march to Old Man Logan's demise. The story isn't completely new, but the art and characters make it work.
