Avengers: No Road Home (2019-) #7
Marvel Comics
Writers: Jim Zub, Mark Waid, & Al Ewing
Artist: Paco Medina
It took me way too long to realize that Avengers: No Road Home is just the vehicle with which Conan the Barbarian would join the 616. I mean, I know he’s going to be on an Avengers team, but I was thinking it would be addressed in that book. But, nope, it’s looking like he’ll be in the main Marvel Universe by the end of this story. But, here’s the thing about Avengers: No Road Home, even with its main use being to bring Conan over, it’s still a really good story.
If you haven’t been reading along, Nyx the Greek goddess of the night is free after the events of Avengers: No Surrender. She’s gathering the shards of her soul, scattered by Zeus, to bring about an endless night. Voyager gathers a team of Avengers to stop her, and we’re in the middle of that currently. Having been blinded by Nyx’s magic, Scarlet Witch was transported to a strange land looking for one of the shards. Being blind, she is saved from bandits by none other than Conan the Barbarian.
This issue picks up after Conan and Scarlet Witch find the shard they’re searching for in Conan’s world. From the start, this issue really picks up the speed. Some of the other Avengers, Spectrum, Vision, Voyager, and Hercules join them, just as Nyx arrives. It’s a good issue, and there’s a good amount of action. Some plot stuff happens, but it’s not too much. We start in Conan’s world, and we end in Conan’s world. The Rocket/Hawkeye/Hulk B-plot gets about two pages, but nothing more.
My favorite part of this issue is probably art. I think, for the most part, Paco Medina is doing great work in this story so far. I like the designs for Nyx and her children, and most of the Avengers look good. The action is also worth noting. It’s clean and everything is pretty dynamic looking. I like a lot of what’s going on with the art, but there are a couple of things I’m not so hot on. Conan, for the most part, looks like a generic muscled guy. That’s kind of his whole thing from my understanding of him, but he looks a little off in some panels. While the action is great, there’s a lot of panels where it’s almost a completely solid color background.
I like this story a lot. Even though we know where this story will finish (Conan in the main universe) I’m enjoying the ride there. I don’t think this is the strongest issue so far, but I still think it’s a fun read. There are some small problems with it, but I don’t think it’s anything that will hamper anyone’s enjoyment of the comic as a whole.
Avengers: No Road Home (2019-) #7
Avengers: No Road Home (2019-) #7 has good art, and moves the story forward a but, but ulultimately isn't the best issue so far.
