Author: Danilo Téo

Danilo is an avid comic book reader since he was 12. Interested in science, magic and pretty much whatever comes his way, he has no idea of what he's doing with his life but seems to be doing well so far.

Image Comics Writer: Declan Shalvey Art: Declan Shalvey Letters: Clayton Cowles This week sees the release of the first issue of Old Dog created by writer and artist, Declan Shalvey. A spy-fi fresh from the oven by powerhouse Shalvey did catch my attention, so I thought I’d give it a go. Old Dog’s about a failed CIA agent, Jack Lynch, who we meet in a surveillance mission right before his retirement. The issue opens with what seems to be a younger operative carrying out an assignment on the field at an unknown time and location. It then cuts to our…

Loaded Bible: Blood of my Blood #6 Publisher: Image Comics Writer: Steve Orlando & Tim Seeley Art: Giuseppe Cafaro Colors: Josh Rodriguez Letters: Maurizio Clausi & Fabio Amelia Once coming upon the synopsis for this series I was incredulous, to say the least. However, seeing that Tim Seeley was involved I was curious. Seeley has been one of those writers that I enjoy keeping track of due to the quality of work he usually provides. For a bit of context, Loaded Bible takes place in a world where humanity, led by the Catholic Church, fought a war against vampires.…

Starhenge #1 Publisher: Image Comics Creator: Liam Sharp This week sees the release of what promises to be a great new ongoing title on Image Comics. Created by comics veteran and artistic powerhouse Liam Sharp, Starhenge #1 begins setting the stage for a time-traveling, space exploring, fantasy amalgamation. The plot for Starhenge revolves around the idea that Merlin was born in the future and died in the past. Sharp came up with a very convoluted explanation for that and it sustains a surprisingly engaging adventure story. It revolves around an ongoing conflict in the future between The Cast, a once…

Blood Stained Teeth #3 Image Comics Writer: Christian Ward Art: Patric Reynolds Colors: Heather Moore Letters: Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou Two months after the release of the first issue of Blood Stained Teeth I’m finally able to catch up. Granted, not many chapters were released but still it’s nice to sit down and dive into one of the Image titles that’s drawn the most attention out of this reviewer this year. Sloane continues on his quest to eliminate every Sip he’s turned, getting more nervous every time Bram Stoker’s goon breathes down his neck. This time he’s chasing a vampire who crashes…

I first came across Bad Space Comics on subreddit r/scifi where user u/Soulless_conner posted the comic dubbed The Suit. In this comic an astronaut stranded in a hostile planet depends on their space suit’s AI to gather food and drink for them. This takes a shocking twist as the suit starts having to resort to more and more drastic sacrifices off the body of the astronaut wearing it. As I read this I was completely horrified but also fascinated. This was a really well made piece of science fiction/horror just floating around the internet. Thankfully, the reddit post linked the…

Eat My Flesh Drink My Blood Publisher: Dauntless Stories Directed by: Frankee White & Adam Markiewicz Cinematography: A.H.G. One cool thing I learned how to do after getting into writing reviews is to be always alert for indie comic books up for review grabs across the web. A while ago I was able to find Evan Schultz and Lydia Roberts’ INTERDIMENSIONAL. And it was an outright gem. So I was very excited when I came across Frankee White’s tweet promoting their new horror comic. The plot of EMFDMB follows Lisa, a young musician who’s engaged to Jonathan Johnson. They get…

Blood-Stained Teeth #1 Publisher: Image Comics Writer: Christian Ward Art: Patric Reynolds Colors: Heather Moore Letters: Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou I remember seeing the announcement for this comic and going: “Hooray, another vampire comic” in a sarcastically boring monotone. However the cast we have for this one really inspires a lot of confidence actually – said a more reasonable and pleasant part of me. This week Cristian Ward’s and Patric Reynolds launch their vampiric tale to the world of comics via Image Comics. The first issue, as usual, is responsible for laying down the basic rules of this universe, introducing us…

Break Out #1 Publisher: Dark Horse Comics Writer: Zack Kaplan Art: Wilton Santos Colors: Jason Wordie Letters: Jim Campbell Last week’s Dark Horse release Break Out brings us to a planet Earth that is being passively invaded by weird flying cubes of unknown technology. This premise by itself bares a lot of potential but the added twist by the end of the chapter really hyped me up for what may come of this. The chapter opens up with an evacuation routine taking place in a high school with narration from our protagonist, Liam, giving us tons of exposition about how…

Alice Ever After #1 Publisher: BOOM! Studios Writer: Dan Panosian Art: Giorgio Spalletta & Dan Panosian Colors: Fabiana Mascolo Letters: Jeff Eckleberry Once I picked this book for this week’s review, I was certain it was going to be yet another Alice In Wonderland reimagined. What I didn’t know was how grim the tone of the book would be, despite Lewis Carroll’s novel being famous for conveying some darker motifs than what was written. This comic follows an adult Alice dealing with a opioid addiction in order to return to Wonderland. Yeah, this might look sudden in the review,…

Publisher: Image Comics Writer: Ryan Parrott Art: Abel & Francesco Mortarino Colors: Chris O’Halloran Letters: Becca Carey Ever since the release of Invincible the standards for a fun and yet captivating story subverting the superhero genre were raised. Rogue Sun arrives in time with the hype for the second season of the animated adaptation of Image’s iconic character. The first issue of this series dedicated itself to establishing the usual elements needed at the starting of a new comic book but it also conveyed something very clearly: Dylan, the protagonist, is not your usual hero type. He’s shown to have…
