Tetragon Puzzle/platformer PlayStation 4 Buka Entertainment Lately I’ve been playing Tetragon, a puzzle game with some platforming elements from the folks at Buka Entertainment. While I generally prefer action in my video games I do sometimes like a good brain-teaser so I thought, why not? In terms of story, Tetragon is fairly simplistic. A man named Lucios and his son are trapped in the realm of Tetragon. A demon has kidnapped his son and Lucios must navigate the world, save the boy and defeat the demon to return home. It’s not the most interesting or original premise for a…

Static: Season One #1 DC Comics Writer: Vita Ayala Artist: ChrisCross, Nikolas Draper-Ivey Static, the most famous face of Milestone Comics returns in a new series by Vita Ayala. The character of Virgil Hawkins has been around since the ’90s. A teenager was given the power to control electricity after attending a protest in which an experimental tear gas was used on the crowd. At one point Static’s animated show was second in popularity only to Pokemon. Despite that, the character has largely fallen by the wayside since then. Now, DC is hoping to revive the popularity of the character…
Compass: The Cauldron of Eternal Life #1 Image Comics Writer: Robert MacKenzie & David Walker Artist: Justin Greenwood Compass, a new series from Image Comics, has just debuted in stores. The book focuses on the adventures of Shahidah El-Amin, a young scholar from Baghdad who seeks an artifact which grants immortality. The plot sounds like a Tomb Raider game but will it be as fun as one? Let’s have a look. The issue kicks off with Shahidah breaking into a tower in Wales. The heroine of the story is searching for a mysterious ring. Unfortunately, Mongolian warriors are searching…
Usagi Yojimbo: Wanderer’s Road #5 IDW Publishing Writer: Stan Sakai Artist: Stan Sakai, Ronda Pattinson Usagi Yojimbo takes one more step along the wanderer’s road with yet another Fantagraphics era tale. This latest issue features “The Teacup”, a classic black and white story from the 80’s redone entirely in colour. IDW has done a great job with previous colour releases of classic Usagi stories but will this issue continue the trend? The story starts with Usagi entering a new area and stumbling across a samurai under attack from bandits. The samurai turns out to be his friend, Gen. The rhinoceros…
Chained to the Grave #1 IDW Publishing Writer: Andrew Eschenbach & Brian Level Artist: Kate Sherron Chained to the Grave, the newest series from IDW has just released its first issue. The story revolves around Roy Mason, a cowboy who was murdered over stolen gold that he’d hidden. At the start of the issue, Roy is revived, albeit chained to his headstone. After promptly reuniting with his family he ends up going on the run with them. The man responsible for his death has learned of his revival and wants to find out where the gold is. It’s a simple…
Justice League Dark #28 DC Comics Writer: Ram V Artist: Amancay Nahuelpan This is it. The big finale. Ever since the start of this series the Justice League Dark has been building one major storyline. How will the league deal with the Upside-Down Man? They’ve confronted and fought the villain who’s been behind the scenes all this time for the last few issues. How will they beat him though? More importantly, will it be a satisfying end to the story? Let’s find out. The issue starts with the bodies of Zatanna and the Upside-Down Man still merged into one. The…
Luna #1 BOOM Studios Writer & Artist: Maria Llovet After finishing off her latest work on Faithless with Brian Azzarello, Maria Llovet is releasing her own new series, Luna. The series is a horror story with erotic elements, much like Llovet’s prior works but with a 60’s setting. The story starts with Teresa, a young woman with mysterious dreams lying on the ground after crashing her car. Teresa is taken in and cared for by a commune called “The Family of the Sun”. While waiting for her car to be fixed, Teresa gets to know multiple members of the group.…
Batman: The Adventure Continues #7 DC Comics Writer: Paul Dini, Alan Burnett Artist: Ty Templeton Over the past six issues the Red Hood, A.K.A. Jason Todd has been watching Batman and his sidekicks from afar. The last issue saw him finally take action as he broke into the Batcave, knocked out Alfred, and kidnapped Robin. This left me quite curious. Dini and Burnett have been taking inspiration from the “Under the Red Hood” storyline for their interpretation of Jason Todd. In that comic, we saw Jason target both Batman and the Joker. How would Tim Drake fit into the inevitable…
Batman: The Adventures Continue #8 DC Comics Writer: Paul Dini, Alan Burnett Artist: Ty Templeton Batman’s latest adventures come to a close this issue by celebrating Christmas and the start of a new year. Admittedly, this isn’t how I expected this continuation of the classic animated series to end but I can’t complain. There’s no continuation of the Red Hood storyline here but I’ve always enjoyed a good Christmas special. Granted, good is the keyword there. Is this issue a keeper or simply something that we’ll re-gift to a relative we barely know? The story follows a similar formula to…
Batman: The Adventures Continue #6 DC Comics Writer: Paul Dini, Alan Burnett Artist: Ty Templeton The adventures continue with Alfred telling more of Jason Todd’s backstory. I’d enjoyed the new aspects of the classic backstory which Dini and Burnett introduced the last issue. Todd was still the criminal who Batman took under his wing. The use of a Red Hood gang was a nice way to set up his masked identity as an adult. This issue focuses entirely on expanding on that origin so let’s get into it. Alfred tells Tim Drake, the current Robin of how Jason went from…
