Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious
Studio: White Fox
Genre: Comedy, Isekai
Streaming: Funimation, Hulu
The first episode of Cautious Hero impressed with a funny premise and superb voice acting. Despite enjoying it, I was concerned that the make joke wouldn’t be able to sustain an entire season. The second episode of the series cranks up the action, but some of the jokes are starting to get a bit stale.
The previous episode ended with a dangerous attack on the protagonists. Facing an enemy that they can’t beat, the duo retreats and our overpowered but cautious hero starts to train again. Like the previous episode, a decent chunk of the episode is just the hero training. Despite this, once the hero faces his foe again, things get a tad exciting.
The second half of the episode is all explosions, and mostly showcases the anime’s adequate animation. I didn’t love this encounter, but it was handled competently. Unfortunately, it is full of cliches, including an enemy that keeps getting stronger with another “final form.” Still, everything looks pretty and the jokes that are scattered throughout the episode are funny enough. It’s a good thing that the action scene’s jokes land successfully because the ones during the hero’s training are wearing out.
The comedy is hit or miss but should entertain the right crowd. The same jokes being played out in different scenarios help to sustain their value, but not my much. Despite all this, I still laughed out loud a couple of times, but most of that is due to Listarte’s reactions to the hero. The voice acting continues to sell the character, and the show is at its best when Listarte is on screen. The character reminds me of Aqua from Konosuba, ugly facial expressions and all. This show doesn’t have as much heart as Konosuba but is capable of filling the void that it leaves for now.
The second episode of Cautious Hero is entertaining but the charm is starting to wear off. There is a lot of potential in this show, and I hope that the introduction of new settings and characters can make everything feel more dynamic. For now, go into this show expecting a few laughs but a lack of depth.

Cautious Hero Episode Two
There are a few laughs, but the jokes could wear out in a few episodes if things aren't switched up soon.
