Kakushigoto

Slice of Life, Comedy

I’ve said it over and over again across many anime reviews. I love slice of life fiction. There is something so perfect about sitting down and indulging in the lives of others, forgetting about my own worries. Every anime season I look for one or two cozy series that will keep me satisfied for the next three months and I might have found it early this time. Kakushigoto has a fine mix of peace and comedy that will delight fans of the genre.
The premise of Kakushigoto is simple enough. A father is raising his young daughter by himself and doesn’t want her to know about his profession. So what does he do? He writes manga, and most of his works seem to be a little on the vulgar side. A good chunk of the anime focuses on the father and the highs and lows of his career. It also puts the spotlight on his daughter, who tends to go on her own little elementary adventures with her friends. It’s a cute series that doesn’t rely on fanservice or anything to entertain the viewer. It’s just cute and full of laughs, and I can’t wait to see how far the father is willing to go to hide his career.
Another thing that I love about slice of life anime is its ability to teach me about things that I’m not familiar with. While I’ve learned a decent amount about the manga industry, its still fun to see a new perspective on it. Viewers will learn about what its like growing famous in the industry and what it is like being an assistant to a mangaka. Kakushigoto is just a wonderful opportunity to learn a little extra while enjoying the humor.
The animation is simple enough, with nothing too offensive in this first episode. The show has a cute art style that features expressive characters and bright environments. The father is tormented quite a bit by his job and trying to keep it a secret, which leads to tons of over-the-top filters and backgrounds. The sound and music in Kakushigoto are standard-fare as well. It has relaxing tunes and fun sound effects that make every joke hit the mark. The voice acting carries some scenes, with tons of emotion and expression in every line.
Kakushigoto is a relaxing anime with some great humor. I love anime that focus on the relationship between father and daughter, and this one seems like it will do it well. For those who want a break from all the action and fanservice that we will inevitably see this season, look no further than this series.
