It’s been about a month since Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot hit shelves, and reviews have been positive. I myself had a great time with the game (and continue to as I work towards the platinum trophy). Bandai Namco has already announced that DLC will be coming to the game, and although some information has surfaced that points to Super DLC in the future, for the most part, we don’t know much about what we can expect from downloadable content going forward. Being the DBZ fan that I am, I’ve already got my own list of DLC that I’d like to see in the future. And if you’re still reading this, I’m going to share it with you now.
Dragon Ball Missions
I’d love to get the chance to control kid Goku from the moment Bulma comes knocking at his home up until he fights against Piccolo Jr. in the 23rd World Martial Arts tournament. Of course, to cover all that ground sufficiently you’d probably need an entirely new game. What I think is more realistic is following Goku from his first encounter with Bulma to his fight with Jackie Chun in the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament. I’ve been refreshing myself on Dragon Ball media, and even in those first two arcs of the series, a lot happens. Goku meets Bulma, Oolong, Puar and Yamcha, Chi-Chi and the Ox-King, as well as Master Roshi, are introduced, Emperor Pilaf summons Shenron for the first time, Goku becomes a Great Ape, Goku meets Krillin and trains with Master Roshi, and they enter the World Martial Arts Tournament for the first time. And that’s not even mentioning every other minor character or situation they run into that could serve as side missions in the open world (Monster Carrot has always been a favorite of mine, after all). Long story short, Dragon Ball has plenty of content that could be adapted to the open-world format of Kakarot. Goku would even still have his Nimbus, he just wouldn’t be able to fly. And while there wouldn’t be a ton of crazy energy blasts and transformations in his move arsenal, players could get to see some special moves utilizing his Power Pole.
Dragon Ball GT Missions
Yes, GT. I think the DBZ community has finally accepted GT for what it is, but for the people who still hate it at least admit that it would be fun to play through. For GT, I think that a great DLC package would be a trimmed down version of the first two arcs (Black Star Dragon Ball saga and Baby Saga). With the Black Star Dragon Ball segments, the open-world could be split up with each different location on the “world” map being different planets the group traveled to. Here players would be able to control GT Goku as a kid, Teen-but-not-future Trunks, and Pan. And then once the Baby Saga comes around, players would get access to the best part of GT by far: Super Saiyan 4. The Baby Saga would also fulfill another giant monster battle just like Great Ape Gohan and Vegeta (and Great Ape Goku in my proposed Dragon Ball DLC) with Baby Vegeta. Of course, the last two arcs would make for a fun experience as well (and I can see the Black Star Dragons being interesting bosses), but I’d really like to see some new locations in the open-world and I think the Baby Saga is too iconic to GT to skip. Plus, the Super 17 Saga is pretty lame.
Dragon Ball Super Missions
As I stated at the beginning of the article, Dragon Ball Super DLC is more than likely going to happen. In fact, data miners have already found code for Beerus and Whis within the base game. However, beyond these reveals, we don’t have any information on what content the DLC will contain so here we can still speculate. A Battle of Gods and Resurrection ‘F’ series of missions would make sense to introduce transformations Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue respectively, But I think it would also be interesting to have the Tournament of Power implemented in some way. Through this not only would players get to experience battles with a bunch of new characters, but the roster of playable/support characters would increase as well. 17, 18, and Frieza would make for cool playable characters, and Master Roshi could be an interesting new support character with moves like the Evil Containment Wave. And, of course, players would eventually have access to the Ultra Instinct transformation.
The Future Trunks Arc could also make for a decent set of missions and would give both Trunks and Vegito new transformations, but I don’t think the rest of that arc makes for a very interesting set of missions beyond being able to see Trunks’ destroyed future over-world and getting to face Goku Black and Zamasu.
Dragon Ball Movie Missions
For the movie missions, I have two different potential DLC concepts. The first is having a series of very short missions relating to each movie’s scenario that would appear in the over-world around the same time as each movie is set. So the Garlick Jr. mission would appear right around the Raditz fight, and Bojack would come in the interim right after Cell. With this, players could even get some fun over-world locations like New Namek for Meta-Cooler, New Vegeta for Broly, or the afterlife for Janemba. Not to mention, a lot of the movies would offer some fun transformations (like pseudo-Super Saiyan in the Lord Slug film) or fan-favorite characters to play as (Gogeta, anyone?). But I’d also be happy with the simple option of adding each movie villain as a summon option with the Dragon Balls. Sure, this might take away some of the transformations, but if they scaled all the villains’ levels up then these could serve as nice challenges for people to play postgame since at present there isn’t much to do once you’ve beaten the main story. Whatever the reason they decide to bring in these movie-only characters, I think it would be a shame not to utilize the roster of villains available to the development team… Oh, and I’d like to mention that this absolutely includes Super Broly as well.
Post-Super Missions
This is admittedly the least fleshed out idea I have on this list because… They could really do anything for these missions. It would be nice to see some world building and lore post-Super surrounding the status of Broly and Cheelai after the movie, as well as maybe having some missions with Goku trying to reacquire his Ultra Instinct abilities. There’s also the Dragon Ball Super manga that could be pulled from, like Moro and his saga. This is honestly an area where the development team could have a lot of fun putting different characters in the overworld for players to encounter and potentially fight. As I said, anything is possible since besides the manga they could build their own canon if they wanted to. I would just like to see more character interactions and have access to some tough postgame opponents.

Yes!!! I agree with every bit of this especially with Dragon Ball. When Kakarot was announced I was ecstatic to see a dbz game like this since the first Budokai. A game that not only follows the anime in fights, but a game that makes you feel like you are in the anime itself with all the filler added to it. A true DBZ game. But we have yet to see a Dragon Ball game like that. It’s always DBZ, and Dragon Ball would be perfect for this style of game that Kakarot is. The only game I ever found that dealt with Dragon Ball is Advanced Adventure for the Game boy Advance, and it followed the story very nicely! It left out some things like Monster Rabbit and when you first encounter Tien Shienhanand Chiatzou before the 23nd World Martial Arts Tournament, and it ended after the fight with King Piccolo. I think GT would be a great fit for this gameplay as well, but instead of the world map being different planets you can travel to. I think it would be better if they actually made the space travel possible in a sort of way that Mass Effect 2 and 3 did.
